We study how the brain processes language and how language develops during childhood
Our lab is part of the Maastricht Brain Imaging Center (M-BIC) at the Faculty of Psychology & Neuroscience (FPN), Maastricht University (UM).
We investigate how adults and children understand spoken language, speak, and (learn to) read. We look at how language is typically processed, but also at language problems and differences between people. For example, how can we improve early prediction of reading problems? And how can we best support children while they are learning to read? Which brain networks do we use when reading a text? To investigate these and other questions, we look at behavioral measures and brain activity.
Project “LeesKans”
This project investigates early reading skills, self-beliefs, and motivation to empower teachers to personalize reading instruction
Project “Leeswinst”
In this project, we investigate the early prediction of reading difficulties and dyslexia so that children can receive better, tailored support from the start of their reading development.
