Bernadette M. Jansma received her PHD in 1997 at the Max Planck Institute, Nijmegen, on lexical access in language production (Promotor Pim Levelt, Antje Meyer). In 1997-98, as Postdoc fellow at UCSD she investigated the time course of lexical access using ERP (Mentors Marta Kutas, Thomas Münte), funded by McDonnell Pew and German Academic Exchange Service personal grants. From 2002 on, she study how the brain selects biological and syntactic gender and she participated in two German DFG Schwerpunkt programs to investigate overt speaking with EEG/ERP/fMRI. Since then main focus is on the interface of perception and language representations. Bernadette shares her expertise with colleagues form the clinical field to better understand language problems related to metabolic diseases and epilepsy; and with Milene Bonte in the context of language development. She contributed to building the Cognitive Neuroscience research line as well as related training programs, among them the FPN research master “Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience”, the graduate school “EU Marie Curie Initial Training Network NeuroPhysics (EU FP7 ETN 2009-2013)”, and the NWO graduate program “Methods in Neuroimaging” (2010-2014). She has been Dean of the Faculty Psychology and Neuroscience from 2009 to 2016 and was dean of the Faculty of Humanties and Sciences from 2016-2018. She supervises bachelor-, master- and PhD-students and was coordinator of several master programs. Since May 2024, she is chair of the supervisory board of the Donders Institute at Radboud University.
